Notion says its new Auto mode does the same AI work for about 90% less
Notion rebuilt its agents, changed its credit system and now lets you plug in a ChatGPT subscription. The savings figure comes from Notion's own tests.
On October 19, 2026, Notion announced a faster, cheaper version of Notion AI and a new way of paying for it. Co-founder Akshay Kothari wrote the company's blog post.
Auto picks the model
The headline is Auto, Notion's model router. Kothari writes that it reads each task and sends it to whichever AI model best balances quality, speed and cost. Simple requests go to fast, cheap models. Harder work goes to stronger ones. If a model gets stuck, Auto switches to another.
Notion says that across more than 20 common tasks, Auto got results similar to Opus 5.5 and Astra at about 90% lower average cost, so credits go about ten times further. That is Notion's own testing.
Agents that run longer
Notion says its agents now run on rebuilt infrastructure and can work on one task for more than 24 hours, up from five minutes. It says agents can use their own computer and browser, keep long conversations tidier, and run up to 50% faster in its web and mobile apps. A new "Review for me" mode uses a separate model to check whether an action is safe before the agent takes it. Notion also says Custom Agent runs cost about 30% less in its testing.
Use the AI you already pay for
Notion says you can now connect a ChatGPT Plus, Pro or Go account and use it in your personal Notion Agent, though not yet in Custom Agents. Enterprise customers can test bringing their own model key in a private alpha. Notion also says it improved its MCP connection, which links outside agents such as ChatGPT, Claude, Grok Bot and Muse to your Notion workspace.
The new credits
Business and Enterprise seats now come with 1,500 Standard credits a month for work where Notion picks the model, and 500 Select credits for when you pick the model or run Custom Agents. Admins can buy more. Notion says, based on its estimates, that most people are unlikely to run out.
The system is live now for new customers, Notion says. Existing customers move over on November 2, and admins will get an email. An AI Command Center with usage dashboards and spending limits for admins is coming "soon," with no date.
