Perplexity's Computer can now copy how an app works, free until Oct. 31

Perplexity says a new skill called Reverse Engineer Anything studies an app without its code and builds a working version.

Hand-drawn wireframes of phone app screens are spread across a desk beside a smartphone, a laptop, a keyboard and a black pen.

Perplexity's AI agent, Computer, has a new trick. On October 16, 2026, Perplexity's Computer account on X announced that a skill called REA, short for Reverse Engineer Anything, is now built in. Perplexity credits the skill to a creator who goes by @morluto on X.

What it does

Perplexity says you ask Computer to reverse-engineer an app. It then looks at how the app works from the outside, without the app's source code, and builds a working version of its own.

Perplexity showed off five apps Computer made this way. Its first example is a design tool modeled on Figma, with layers, auto-layout, sign-in, syncing across devices and live editing with other people. Perplexity says the examples are open to try for a limited time.

These are Perplexity's demos. How well a rebuilt app matches the real one will vary, and Perplexity's post does not say how long each one took to make.

Free for now

Perplexity says tasks that use the /reverse-engineer command are free through October 31, up to 10,000 credits per person. After that, normal Computer credits apply. The post does not say what a credit costs.

What you can try

If you use Computer, type /reverse-engineer and point it at a simple app you know well, like a to-do list or a timer. Comparing the copy to the original is the quickest way to see what it gets right and what it misses.
